Various Tea Brewing Methods

Green Tea

Green tea is delicate and requires careful brewing to bring out its best flavors. Start with fresh, filtered water heated to around 175°F (80°C). Use about 1 teaspoon of green tea leaves per 8 ounces of water. Steep the leaves for 1-3 minutes, depending on your preference for strength. Longer steeping times can result in bitterness, so adjust according to taste.

Black Tea

Black tea is more robust and can withstand hotter water temperatures. Boil water to 212°F (100°C) and pour it over 1 teaspoon of black tea leaves per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 3-5 minutes for a strong cup. Adjust steeping time based on how strong you prefer your tea; shorter steeping times for lighter flavors.

Oolong Tea

Oolong tea is partially oxidized, offering a balance between green and black tea. Water temperature should be around 185-205°F (85-95°C). Use approximately 1 tablespoon of oolong tea leaves per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 2-4 minutes, but this can vary depending on the specific oolong tea variety. Experiment to find your preferred strength.

White Tea

White tea is delicate and requires lower water temperatures to preserve its subtle flavors. Heat water to about 160-175°F (70-80°C). Use 1-2 teaspoons of white tea leaves per 8 ounces of water. Steep for 4-6 minutes for a light, refreshing brew. Adjust steeping time if a stronger flavor is desired.

Herbal Tea

Herbal teas encompass a wide range of plants and herbs, each with its own ideal brewing method. Generally, boiling water is used, poured over 1-2 teaspoons of dried herbs per 8 ounces of water. Steep times vary widely depending on the herb used, typically ranging from 5-15 minutes. Some herbs may require longer steeping for optimal flavor extraction.

Pu-erh Tea

Pu-erh tea, known for its earthy and rich flavor, benefits from hotter water temperatures. Boil water and let it cool slightly to around 200-212°F (95-100°C). Use approximately 1 tablespoon of pu-erh tea leaves per 8 ounces of water. Rinse the leaves briefly with hot water before steeping for 2-5 minutes. Pu-erh can be steeped multiple times, with each infusion offering a different flavor profile.
